Topic: What isn't working?

I'm trying to get a list of everything that isn't working correctly on the forum, I will be trying to fix stuff once we get an alternate forum set up for testing (this might take a little bit, we're waiting on a few things before we can get it set up).
I'll put a list of all known stuff here for now. If you have anything to report, please post here with as much detail as you can.
You can also put requests for things you want I guess, but I will mostly be focusing on fixing things that aren't working correctly to start.

List of known problems:

  • New lines don't work correctly (you have to put 2 new lines for it to create a single one)

  • Some of the players in the media tag don't work anymore

  • Spoiler tags can break the forum layout if used incorrectly

  • doujinstyle.com should redirect to www.doujinstyle.com (forum cookies are set to www subdomain)

List of requests:

  • WYSIWYG editor

  • More services for media tag (Bandcamp)

Re: What isn't working?

Can we request features here, or is it just bugs and things that don't work?

Re: What isn't working?

I'm an idiot.
Okay, there's this strange thing that you can type and access the forums without adding "www." in front of the address, but the login screen will use them, so after you login, you *have* to keep using "www." for your session to remain (or be acknowledged as logged in)
As for feature request, I guess I'd like to have WYSIWYG editors.

Maybe this is a feature and not a bug? It was not bad to structure bigger texts in the edit mode with that functionality.

Re: What isn't working?

This may be a bug or a feature request depending on what the media tag was supposed to do, but Bandcamp embedding would be pretty cool.

I kind of agree, I was never annoyed by it, and it's useful for breaking up text while editing long posts, but it was one of the first "bugs" reported on this section, and a few other people mentioned it recently, so I figured I would add it to the list. I'm not sure whether I will "fix" it or not.

I already planned to add that when I was fixing soundcloud being broken, but I guess I'll add it to the requests section.

Re: What isn't working?

Also, is it just me or do the buttons not show up in youtube videos on the forum?

Re: What isn't working?

It works fine for me. That is not enough to say the forum might not be messing with you, though.

what happens if you browse without all your shitty plugins? because the youtube player looks fine for me

Re: What isn't working?

It's a weird bug with firefox, it depends on the site but it's not a problem with this forum itself

The buttons are still there, just invisible

Re: What isn't working?

I've started testing things on a server hosted on a local virtual machine, I have a fix for spoilers breaking the layout, so once the test server is up and we can make sure it doesn't break anything, that will be fixed.
Working on some of the other ones too.

Re: What isn't working?

Feature request: Allow the GD libraries or HTML to resize avatars.

Presently, the allowable size for uploading avatars is 977Kb. It is restricted to 180x180, but rarely does any avatar at such dimensions would have a size as big -or close to- 1Mb. Instead of letting the aforementioned options resolve the conflict, we are greeted by an unfriendly message:

Warning! The following errors must be corrected before your profile can be updated:

The file you tried to upload is wider and/or higher than the maximum allowed 180x180 pixels.

Re: What isn't working?

I believe the higher file size is most likely for GIF avatars, you're right that most 180x180 still images aren't going to be close to 977kb, but GIFs can hit that pretty quickly.
I don't really see the point of allowing uploads of larger images if they're just going to be resized to 180px anyways, you can just resize them in paint (or whatever) yourself.

Re: What isn't working?

I noticed you're offering an (incomplete) HTTPS version of these forums. Congratulations!
If there is anything I can do to help with it, let me know. All I can see without having access to the server is that the themes are loading as mixed content and, as such, break formatting. If PunBB allows it, change all theme references from "(http://localhost)doujinstyle.com/themes/etc/" to "https://(localhost)doujinstyle.com/themes/etc"
Edit: of course, you could've already done that in the test server but I'm assuming it's not the case. (yet)

Re: What isn't working?

I think the SSL was incidentally added with a cPanel update, it wasn't actually added on purpose, though I guess it doesn't harm anything. There's still no actual "test sever", anything I've tested has been on a local virtual machine with punbb installed. I can bug holy some more, but there hasn't really been any progress on anything.

Looking at the punbb settings, I don't see an easy was to automatically use the correct protocol, you either have to use http or https for everything, you can't just default to what the user is browsing with. I tried setting the base URL in the config file to "//domain.com", which basically means it will try loading the resources with whatever protocol the user is browsing with, but it broke CSRF verification on the forum.

If you want to use SSL, I suggest using HTTPSEverywhere and adding a custom ruleset for DS.

This is what I mean. Even if I load DS over HTTPS, themes and other content aren't, which breaks the layout on any browser due to it blocking mixed content. (HTTP when HTTPS was requested)
The only solution to mixed content is to either go full HTTPS, or not offer it at all. I'm not saying you should do anything at all here, I was simply volunteering to help in making the former work without issues.

Re: What isn't working?

That content can be loaded over https, the forum software just isn't linking it that way, and there's no way to do so in the forum software without forcing HTTPS (or writing a plugin to deal with it), which probably isn't going to happen since it wasn't really done on purpose in the first place. If you want full HTTPS without the broken layout, you can make a ruleset in HTTPSEverywhere and it will redirect the http URLs to https ones, but other than that there's not much that can be done.

dRoGoZ wrote:

Also, HTTPS Everywhere has stopped supporting custom rulesets for a while now. They have the whole database server-side now.

Hakkin wrote:

Forcing how? If not through the forum software itself, that's going to cause more troubles than anything.
All forum software I've used have a way to tell them they're being loaded through HTTPS and behave as such without the need for plugins. This fixes mixed content and the only thing required afterwards would be to craft a CSP header including external sources for images, videos, audio and other content not hosted by you to prevent browsers complaining about external sources.

But as I said and repeat, there's no need to do anything here. We're speaking purely theoretically.

Custom rulesets still work fine for me, though they don't work in this case since Firefox still blocks the mixed content before HTTPSEverywhere gets a chance to rewrite it, so I guess there's really no way to fix it client side.

There is a variable in punbb's config file that sets the base URL for the site, in this case it's "http://www.doujinstyle.com/forum".
It can be set to "https://www.doujinstyle.com/forum", but that would basically force https on the whole forum.
It can be set to "//www.doujinstyle.com/forum", which will correctly maintain whatever protocol is user is using, but it breaks the CSRF hash token generation, I haven't looked into it but it probably hashes something based on the base URL variable and compares it to the requested URL or something like that, so it won't match unless the proper protocol is specified in the base URL.

Re: What isn't working?

Why do I always have to load this website twice
I always get Server not found the first time, loading again works though.
For a while I thought the site was dead before I released I could refresh and get on.

Same thing happening to me. I have to load the site multiple times for it to work.
