Topic: I don't know how to make friends anymore

Forums are dying and pretty much all imageboards are cesspools at this point. I use Tumblr and try to use Twitter, but I never seem to have much of any luck on either. How the fuck are you supposed to meet people on the internet now?

That's an excellent question. I found a couple of friends by playing [mmo dot name] religiously in 2014. Just gotta maintain contact outside of the game. And if somebody actually requests you to add them, you will likely have to initiate a ton of "hi"s anyway because only like 2% of the internet's population do that voluntarily, and then people forget about each other thanks to radio silence.

Then again, if it doesn't click, it probably won't click.

Matchmaking killed community-building in video games. If you are going to do it through games, play games that have community servers. The strongest peer group I still have these days is composed almost entirely of people from NEOTOKYO°.

And if you consider making anything happen irl (inb4 lolol dstyle users having rl friends), the only way that comes to mind is to revive friendships believed dead. I did this with two people and it actually worked out great.

never actually thought of it that way, but this is very much true.

you could always force yourself to join another community forum. forum trends might be lower these days but there are still some pretty active ones out there, you just gotta look around.

or get yourself to watch twitch streams, join streamer discords, etc. there still are multiple possibilities to make new friends and join communities.

Yeah, I really don't have the answer to this question. Matchmaking and the death of forums really made it hard to meet people on the internet.

The only real way to meet people with similar interests now i've found is to join one of the smaller subreddits and be an active poster there.

do you ever just feel like
most everybody you meet already has some established circle of friends in one form or another
and arent really that interested in meeting anyone new (i dont see any reason why they should)

Re: I don't know how to make friends anymore

yeah, but that doesn't mean they aren't. trying to force yourself into already tight knit communities is a recipe for disaster. which is why i recommended reddit, sure, it has it's problems but there's no real barrier to entry like there is in some places.

your only other option is to make a tumblr and offer to draw porn for people.

Re: I don't know how to make friends anymore

If there were more subreddits that catered to my interests, then I'd use it more. Most of the subs that I followed were just too slow for their own good. I just wish that there was a decent imageboard with a board dedicated exclusively to old anime and manga.

Re: I don't know how to make friends anymore

You could still make friends playing an mmo easily I suspect. I mean if they were your thing. Not that I've tried, but the people on DS I met while playing Mabi generally became my closest friends here playing with them day after day.

Same. Well, I'm lucky the guy is crazy talkative, but still.

Re: I don't know how to make friends anymore

You might want to try looking for a Steam group with your interests (like old anime and manga as you mentioned), it's not so bad assuming they have a decently active group chat. I ended up making a few friends this way when I stumbled into a group chat and hung around for a couple days. Just finding someone to play a game or chat about something with regularly can lead to a friend, Steam groups are one way to try and find that situation.

I don't do much worth mentioning, but I do contribute to the doujin music side of the Touhou Wiki (My profile) whenever I have the time. (my uploads)

Re: I don't know how to make friends anymore

I've met a few people recently just through joining a couple random discords, became pretty good friends with them. Could maybe look around at ones that share your interests?

How do you even find discord servers, anyway?

https://discord.me
Also finding some invite links flying around in abandoned forum threads using Google.

Discord is still young and small though so you shouldn't let it be your only search vector.

Re: I don't know how to make friends anymore

It's better than nothing. I'm still painfully alone, though

Re: I don't know how to make friends anymore

I have the same problem. The current irl acquaintances I have, I don’t know how to get closer to them without being a creep or coming off as a fan or something (since they’re somewhat prolific in the VO community), and the only people I feel safe enough to call friends are people I’ve met here on DS and have known for a while now. Unfortunately, it seems everyone’s busy nowadays, myself included, so I’ve been feeling pretty lonely as well.

Things haven't really improved very much, but I guess that's to be expected.
